1/ I'm sure the STS folks can say this better but, Single-author papers or projects aren't interdisciplinary. They can't be.

2/ The ideas I spend my time on may cross a lot of disciplinary boundaries. And, I've used the word "interdisciplinary" in my dissertation, following everyone else's usage of it. But, it just feels like a lie.pic.twitter.com/9P6KKjxqgD

To be fair, I've just avoided defining it. But as a bio-engineer turned nanotech person turned biophysics person currently working in chem-e... I just don't know what I am if I can't say "interdisciplinary"!

Yea, I think that's part of it... At least my perception of interdisciplinary *has been* "I'm an expert in this and that." But, I think it's better thought of as "what I study lies partly here and partly there." A bit hand-wavy, but...hey, this is a hot take ;)
