A cipher should still be secure if everyone knows how it works, just not if they have the key. (I.e. should not depend on security by obfuscation.) So, mostly, my analogy is bad.

Trolling obfuscates meaning, almost by design. So, yea, def bad analogy. But the shared hidden meaning is kinda key-like, and the rules of trolling aren't secret. So it's not a terrible one, either. (Just taken very loosely.)
