Like, I've literally maintained a "official" git branch, which satisfies my needs and desires and "master" is what my chair and the library demands. Even if I don't merge them properly some day, it helped me just to feel like I could/would.

Yup its a balance of "get the thing finished so you can move on". I would argue about things in my diss I felt strongly ab, but by the time you're at the end, the stuff you disagree ab you either just do your way (bc they might not notice) or their way (bc you wanna graduate)
