oh god, I can't even imagine deriving any pleasure from it at all. On the one hand a buffoon in a tweed jacket whose primary trick is relying on the fact that he knows how to look like a smart person, on the other an apologist for Stalin, who murdered many of my relatives.

IDK much abt the latter's apologia. But, I think both are clowns and I would like something in political-cultural space to have a resolution at this point. Even if my momentary, fight-night side loses, at least something happens instead of just constant collision-less collisions.

Appropriate resolution is both in a rocket to the sun

Yes, also a resolution! A realized outcome. Toss them both in the Colosseum -- fuck it!

My part of this whole thread is only semi-serious. But, I've been trying to figure out why everything is so disorienting and it's just...there is too much information and too many events for us to process at the timescales they're presented.

So the idea of a spectacle that could start AND THEN END is just absolutely seductive and exhilarating. It won't happen that way. I'll be disappointed. But the possibility is enough to seduce me.

There's a sense in which going to a debate is kind of like going white-water rafting - you're putting yourself, recreationally, into the sort of situation that your ancestors would have considered to be deadly serious. We as a species tame our fears, turn them into toys?

Hrm. Not sure...hadn't thought about it that way.

let me be slightly more precise, because "debate" is the wrong term there. Hmm.

resolution as: 1) a conflict has ended without violence 2) two ideas were reconciled into a 'truth' The first we've done recreationally for millenia. The second we used to think was serious, but are rapidly realizing it's not.

Oh yea. Same problem too. By getting to virtually explore information from an effectively (for us) infinite number of locals, we're just overwhelmed. I don't even mean an objective truth. It's just that... ...norms are, like, melting at this temperature.

And regrettably it's the fascists who figured out how to weaponize that, while simultaneously loudly denouncing the very ideas that they're exploiting. Yay.
