Do you think this is a new trend and/or one that it is on the rise? It strikes me that we’ve seen this throughout history (e.g., Y2K). Though as I think about it, perhaps there is some correlation between the public’s perceived erosion of political systems and desire to prep.
I really don't know and I would like to look into it more when I am not on shit union station/amtrak wifi. But, I agree with your paired points. Preppers are very much not new and Y2K seems like a plausible recent event (and 9/11, prob).
I see it as wishful thinking of the "I was born in the wrong era" type. It follows an implicit understanding that they aren't "special" in our society as it exists now, with a desire to return to colonialist land conquest. I love this figure from Foley et al. (2005).pic.twitter.com/Ak4sxWKeMY
*waits 5 minutes for image to download* *fails* *refreshes* *fails* (Hopes I remember to check back on this later when I have real wifi)
Does it count as “academic work” if I clean data while Preppers plays in the background?
I'm guessing this means there is a show about it?! (I can't check now on Amtrack wifi because its too slow.) But yes, count it. (I bought those magazines so I will get my own show shortly.)
I used to follow several "preppers"on youtube when I tried hydroponics. Here is one:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU0VgNVC0KzHpiz026V-RHQ …
I really want to play with hydroponics. It seems like a fun use of reinforcement learning and machine version. Alas, not really a lot of room in an apartment.
