I just remembered this post I wrote four (!!) years ago. Give it a read if you've recently had treatment for cancer or some other serious illness.https://medium.com/@generativist/what-if-b470e2f3be54 …

I had a different experience. I was an acquisitions editor for an oncology journal during my first years out of college, so I didn't want to do the deep dive into the lit I'd once helped produce. It helped that I didn't care about the outcome as long as it came quickly.

What do you mean by the last part?

I mean, honestly, that I really didn't care whether I lived or died. What I cared about was lingering in a state that would bankrupt my family. Being indifferent to one's survival significantly decreases the stress of the experience.

Ugh. I'm sorry that happened to you. I've heard it so many times and it's just awful that that's an element of the experience for too many people.
