One reason I don’t think I’ll ever return to academia is that I can’t imagine being able to do interesting software engineering research without being embedded within a software engineering organization.

Hot take: There is way too little model reuse in computational social science. Lots of useful modeling frameworks but not enough collaborative model design, extension, and elaboration.
