Know how with retrospect you can remember that school yard "disses" were really stupid, and even the word makes you feel silly now? It's incredible that we (and I include myself) feel as if snark is somehow different at all.

Exactly. It's one of the main things I find exhausting about Twitter, and I imagine the rest of social media. "Snark", exalted and celebrated in this world, ends really just being tedious assholery, part of the social hierarchy enforcement of the playground in a new context.
