1. Nature which inspired the idea that life and the world around us is endlessly fascinating.https://twitter.com/generativist/status/1067192579266134019 …

💥 (wannabe) Ƀreaker of (the Bad) Loops 💫 @generativistReplying to @LauraPaskusI had a tree in my back yard that was very old. It was surrounded by dense brush and rocks. Without telling me, my parents buried a bunch of fossils near it and "found" one in front of me. Digging, I found them over a year or two, sitting on the tree when I got tired. Good tree.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

2. Computers because they let me build my own universes. "I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up." http://phrack.org/issues/7/3.html

Very early: Learning games, Oregon Trail, QBasic, Doom Middle school: Warez FTPs, Using/Writing AOL progs, Perl, C/C++, Lisp, Linux High school: "Hacking," spamming (very successfully), skipping school to program more A transgressive self-image was a big motivator for me

Not really. My dad was an accountant though, so we had a home computer. (And, he encouraged me to keep at it once he realized I (a) was good at it and (b) liked it a lot.)
