Er, s/agency/perceptual agency/ The system is so complex and power is so asymmetrical that I (and most people) do not feel as though it is responsive to my beliefs, values, and policy preferences.

But, in a ratio party / pile on, you get to feel as though your message gets at least received. And, sometimes it does! Just, not in an effective and systemic way, and it probably creates at least as many fires as it puts out.

Yea. Like, I'm a reasonably smart guy but in a behavioral sense, I'm still convinced that giving shit to Dumb Starbucks guy matters. That's a hell of a delusion. Even if it does, it's a misallocation -- but a seductive one.
