This is entirely my perception and I have no evidence to support it but it kinda feels like the mixture of constructs each programming language offers is converging and -- if that's true -- I don't think I like it.

For the subset languages I use, which is statistical and mathematical computing languages, that’s been my perception too. They are getting more similar.

Maybe I romanticize it a bit too much, but I'd prefer lots of only weakly-overlapping contexts. Otherwise, it feels like we're all growing ideas in a monoculture.
