What's the deal with announcing to people that you are unfollowing them? A sort of parting shot? You need them to know why?

I’m 100% sure nobody has had that intention in announcing their intention to unfollow me. It’s mostly an attempt to punish for what they consider a bad tweet afaict which puzzles me since nobody is paying anyone
