There’s something about Twitter (maybe “my” Twitter of mostly scientists) that feels real. I think that Facebook/Instagram personas are vastly different than the people behind them IRL.

Yes. I think it's one of the few plusses of habituated use. Expression becomes so frictionless that you manage presentation less.

I’d both say that my account is very true to my personality, but also a quasi branded version of myself. Definitely things I don’t share on here for fear of retaliation by future employers (ugh?) and things I know I overshare.

It’s can be very confusing emotionally, tbh. I have lots of talks with friends about identity and what it means in the age of social media, niche jobs, and The Brand. Yay for being a millennial?
