Oh my gosh, this is so timely for me! I was just reading through old essays when I should have been working on a conference paper and I don't think this paper will be as good as those essays...

Yea, that's kinda the feeling. Like, I think I've let complexity creep back into my writing, and I don't like it one bit.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who feels like this! Starting to write my PhD thesis last year took me about a week of staring at my laptop thinking that everything I wrote would be the hottest of hot garbage. Starting to write is my biggest stressor!

Yes to all of this! I should be starting to write my thesis now and am hoping this conference paper will ease me into it, but I have also just stared at my computer all week!

My two cents: in my life, almost everything I’ve ever written has sounded better after I’ve returned to it after a significant period of time. I don’t know why, but in my case I suspect that we’re harder on ourselves as writers than as readers.

Footnote: after you’ve been writing for a loooong time, you go back and look at your earliest stuff and realize that you’ve improved soooo much in writing!

I'm really looking forward to that, Dr. Sky Skull! ...although, I do experience it intermittently, even now.
