Oh my gosh, this is so timely for me! I was just reading through old essays when I should have been working on a conference paper and I don't think this paper will be as good as those essays...

I typed a reply and didn't send earlier because sounded patronising about sounding chronically super fed up with thesis and value of doing less sometimes, even when counterintuitive and time pressures. Kind of same idea.

And I'd have wanted to literally drown people in their own coffee cups if they'd told me I was burnt out because there isn't always luxury of not doing it.

Definitely. Especially the dissertation writing bc of all the boxes I was trying to check to ensure it was rigorous enough to pass. In some cases, I especially like the fluidity of some earlier drafts better. Not to mention the 80 pages of stuff I cut!

Yes. That's definitely part of it. I'm writing at a different level of rigor and formality, and I think that style of writing is just...bad.
