IMO the real mistake is trying to avoid errors instead of accommodating to the fact that you will always be wrong about almost everything you know, to some degree. I think rather than trying avoid being "wrong", emphasize effective updating.

Yes. And selecting the right error sources is part of effective updating. Reality "is altogether too big, too complex and too fleeting for direct acquaintance" so you might as well find sources that continue to keep you within good bounds.
