Even better, clarify intent before proceeding. It's hard to ask the right question!

Sometimes. Although, even so -- I prefer you answer what I asked if there is an obvious answer first.

Learning how to give that answer the first time is a learned skill for a lot of spectrum people. When we give all of the context for our answer it's often because we're used to not being understood when we don't. I get frustrated by this in others too but it's hard sometimes.

The long-winded larger answers happens when we don't know if the person we're talking to has enough context to understand the short answer to their question so we give the long one to be safe. But I agree that that's often a frustrating failure mode.

Oh please yes! And on a related note, don’t assume the asker doesn’t *already know the answer* and treat them like an idiot for asking. Sometimes it’s a different perspective they are after.
