I just started reading Irresistable (2017) today. Obviously, I don't know the literature that well yet but... ...the constant insistence that conflict resolution through SMS, iMessage, email, etc is Bad (TM) seems like a gross exaggeration at best.

Because it allows people to obfuscate the authenticity of their communication within an ambiguous medium. It reduces the level of personal communication from I-Thou to I-It (in the terms of Martin Buber).

To bring this out of the abstract: I pretty much know exactly how much a potential client is serious about committing to a project with me based on how much they refuse to pick up the phone. You can extrapolate that into personal relationships.

Yea, that's definitely true to some degree. But I think it's very different for existing, social relationships. Like, the online/"real" is valid...but extreeeeeeemlllyyyy fuzzy.
