Every time I write "this dissertation's author," a very real part of me dies.
My writing style is generally informal. But in my current context, "I" is a poor choice. I'm writing about programming methodology and talking about how my (the dissertation's author) has different needs than any reviewer, and explaining how I resolved that. Still hurts tho.

I don’t see how that helps... the ‘dissertation’s author’ just makes me think you used MTurk to get that portion done and you’re honestly not sure exactly who did the work ...

One of my committee members gave me permission to remove that fuckery already. She's not the one I thought would give me pushback for informality... ...but it bothered me enough to compel a tweet so it's on :)

How about "your humble narrator"?

I'd prefer, "your code emissary."
