My writing style is generally informal. But in my current context, "I" is a poor choice. I'm writing about programming methodology and talking about how my (the dissertation's author) has different needs than any reviewer, and explaining how I resolved that. Still hurts tho.

There are lots of lovely and useful words. There are almost as many bad social and institutional conventions prescribing the use of inferior ones. (I'm salty because I want to be able to say "fuck that" in my dissertation.)

I sometimes used “the researcher” to mean me but largely did everything I could to avoid it. First person is ok in my field so I’m using that from now on.
