People who identify as "centrists" articulate their biography and information environment — nothing more. People who identify as "radical centrists" do the same, but they spend a lot more time rationalizing their path of least resistance as the heroic one.

His paraphrased argument that "if you don't have an explicit loss function, that is biased toward humanity, you suck" is pretty farfetched. Or, it's just hobbesian in the sense that by that argument we all suck (which is probably not unreasonable upon further reflection).

"His" is me. I think "we all suck" is a fair summary. But, awareness / characterization of your loss function this way (aimed at my followers who are data science-y) helps you "suck less" in the sense of "less wrong" estimates because it inevitably conditions what you believe.
