1/ It still surprises me that people assume they will sanction norm violations within their group "once they have power," and that doing so otherwise represents bad strategy -- even though I used to think the same thing.
2/ Like, yes, there is a a theoretical trade-off — but power purchased this way doesn't merely cost rhetorical integrity. It weakens the norm in a way that often renders it far more expensive to repair later on.

3/ The predictive horizon is fast diminishing. Right and wrong is easier to correctly understand and enforce in the here and now.
