Hello #phdlife / #phdchat, It's #SundayFunday. I just released the stable version of iTikZ. I've been using it for a week, finding bugs and adding @pytestdotorg unit tests. This thread explains why you, a scientist who uses @ProjectJupyter and #latex, may want to use it, too.pic.twitter.com/f8zielafw4

Don't know what #TikZ is: > TikZ and PGF are TeX packages for creating graphics programmatically. TikZ is build on top of PGF and allows you to create sophisticated graphics in a rather intuitive and easy manner. Here are a few examples from: http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/ pic.twitter.com/T174rOCMnP

Basically, if you're doing science, there's probably a TikZ package that will save you time while producing a beautiful figure.pic.twitter.com/Iiy33Jxegh

I'm using TikZ in my dissertation which is written entirely in @ProjectJupyter. I really don't like leaving `/lab` anymore. iTikZ fits with my workflow. It compiles and renders the TikZ picture in an output cell (but also can keep the tex file for eventual tex typesetting).pic.twitter.com/V1WeVfW4pc

If that was all it did, it would be useful for me. But, I added a lot of my common cases. This example shows how you can use an implicit tikzpicture environment, with tikz libraries and tex packages automatically included, and with scaling for development iteration.pic.twitter.com/N6P2QTs3LK

And, even more critically, you can use #jinja templates that implicitly use the notebook's vars() as their environment. So, you programmatically generate TikZ pictures with Python while injecting your data! (The written tex file is post-interpolation -- that is, just tex.)pic.twitter.com/9HkcSV8oNU

You can see a full quick start here on nbviewer with a caveat: it will render a few things wrong. It's a complication of the SVG-inlining on that website that I don't have time to figure out. But, it renders perfectly if you fork the notebook and run it. https://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/jbn/itikz/blob/master/Quickstart.ipynb …

Here is a link to the project on @github. If you do use it, I'd appreciate some stars and retweets for visibility. As I've learned from @dataandme: a lot of times things you don't know you want exist but you need a social push!https://github.com/jbn/itikz

P.S. I've only tested this on OSX and Ubuntu. I assume windows won't work without some attention to pdflatex and svg2pdf paths. But, I need to get #phdone so I'm out of time :(
