What is PGF/Tikz? A language and a lot of latex packages for making some beautiful figures, diagrams, and pictures (relatively) quickly. Check out some examples here: http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/

Why is itikz? If you use
@ProjectJupyter, I don't think I have to sell you on iterative and interactive computation. With iTikz, you can stay in your IPython notebook while iterating on your figures.pic.twitter.com/yBTiLiljgp

Note: itikz writes the .tex file and the .svg file so you can use them later when typesetting a big tex file you want to send to a journal. Until then, you can iterate! But, there's more goodies for the 90% of usages.

To reduce cognitive load, you can assume an implicit tikzpicture environment -- just write the code. (There's also a way to include specific tex packages and tikz libraries in this mode.)pic.twitter.com/xKRTLs8l58

You can also use
#jinja2 templates! The template parameters are your notebooks `vars()`. DRY!pic.twitter.com/p5RGaPDIh8

There are a few more details in the Quickstart. I'm not going to v0.1.0 it for a week or so. But, I've been using it and it seems ready for comments. I HOPE THIS SAVES YOU TIME! https://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/jbn/itikz/blob/master/Quickstart.ipynb …

@pwang since you’re at the intersection of data science, python, and happen to be a former physicist (and that group loves the LaTeX)Show this thread
