Given the percentage of the population with one of the color blindness, it would be nice to have a user-selectable option for perception friendly output, rather than defaulting to one requirement for universally perceivable. Good scripting project.

Colorblind palattes are better, but still hard to read. But people really flip when you have black and white with different pattern shading. Maybe try that option and they'll be happy with the colorblind choice! ;)

I do that, too. A first year prof demanded it and the habit stuck :)

For something like this, where using a poorly chosen color scheme can literally lead to your data being uninterpretable, I really don't understand the grief people give over the aesthetics of colorblind-friendly colormaps.

They're also not even really ascetically displeasing -- they're just not the default. Seaborn has a really nice 'colorblind' palette. (Probably from colorbrewer, but I'm not sure.)
