I came across this taxonomy the other day. It's not perfect—there are missing groups and mischaracterizations and who knows what methodology they used—but it's an impressive start toward creating a useful new paradigm for thinking about ideological tribes. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11Ov1Y1xM-LCeYSSBYZ7yPXJah2ldgFX4oIlDtdd7-Qw/edit?usp=sharing …

Pinker is in the Optimists group, who believe that science and rationalism are the path to creating a better world. Shapiro isn't on here, but I'd probably put him in Alt-Lite. Would you agree?

I think Pinker's expressed message is Science, Progress, and Reason. But, I think his received message is close to Shapiro's. H_1: Their cofollows will be relatively high.

The only thing they have in common is that Pinker sometimes criticizes the academic left. Shapiro types love getting a chance to say "see, even that smart liberal guy thinks those post-modernists are full of shit!" But Pinker is coming at it from the academic center-left.

I don't think you'll find him saying "Liberalism is a mental disorder" because that's neither his style nor reflective of his views.

I am curious what the cofollowers looks like though. How would we interpret the numbers? What would we compare them to?

I think the names on that list are excellent for a cofollower study, actually. (Did it once before for James Damore, but not with rigor.)https://dispatches.artifexdeus.com/who-follows-james-damore-7874104e81ab …
