Do I have any followers that know a lot about the history of education (particularly in the US) who could tell me why I learned calculus and not linear algebra in high school?

Thinking about this 'cause I sometimes have taught machine learning to humanists, but I tend to stay away from any of the math bits. My linear algebra textbook was an add on to Stewart's Calculus book and so it took that calc heavy approach.
