I did my high school in India where (single variable) calculus is introduced before Linear Algebra. I think the reason for that is because a lot of high school Physics and Chemistry requires it, but not working with anything more complex than simple vectors.

I think the physics / chem overlap is the main reason.

The interwebs say tradition and expected due to C3 being the gateway drug to linear

That makes sense.

Unrelated (maybe): I learned that the reason biology, chemistry, and physics are taught in that order is because they're alphabetical that way.

Back when I was in HS linear algebra had limited application unless u had access to a mainframe. It was also a hideous experience in college calculating all those determinants on paper. Only recently with ML do I see the elegance of it.

That makes painful sense

How do you define linear algebra? I learned some of the basics of linear algebra in pre-calc (matrices, linear dependence, Cramer's rule, etc.). Nothing more advanced than that, though.

Yea I think that's what I had. Touched on it for a few weeks with no broad integration. Maybe that's my answer -- calc integrated (har) with physics?
