1/ I believe this platform is inherently bad. And, I believe @jack is a coward who has the power to drastically reduce harm yet chooses not to. But, people like me are a HUGE part of the problem.
I inhibit migration.

2/ For me,
@facebook was relatively easy to leave. I wasn't concerned about "taking my friends with me," because the concept is nonsensical. I was and am connected to the friends I care about with or without facebook.1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
3/ What
@facebook actually provided was soap opera as a service. It let me observe the lives of people who were familiar enough so that I cared but distant enough that I didn't feel attached. But, once it started affecting the relationships I cared about, it had negative value.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likesShow this thread -
4/ Twitter is different. It exposes me to a lot of interesting people, ideas, and work. But, it also allows me to expose *my* ideas to a large audience. My account isn't exactly a major one, but I do have an audience that generates interactions which stroke my ego.

5/ Emotionally, that's the hard thing for me to leave behind. I want to bring who I FOLLOW with me, because it's a curated information environment. But, I also want to bring my FOLLOWERS with me, because it's a SOCIAL POSITION I enjoy.

6/ So, even if it's easy to intellectually justify leaving, it's harder to do so emotionally. It involves giving up something valuable. And, given the way the feed works, the prob of a big migration seems contingent upon people with large followings amplifying the leave signal...

7/ ...but, structurally, that set of people seem to be the least likely to do so. IDK if theres a technical solution to that problem. I've been trying to think of solutions that would mitigate my resistance hoping it would be generally effective. But this thread is more of RFC.

(P.S. Those solution's don't involve "take your position with you." I don't think that's a possible or desirable outcome to a migration. The power law distribution may be a symptom of the disease.)
