It makes me feel weird saying so though. Like, the conflict of: loving to build technological tools; imagining the potential of technological solutions to social problems; recognizing the reality of recent failures; and, theorizing about the "why," is painfully disorienting.

yes! but caring about the problems and downfalls is part of loving to build tools! that's one of the most important parts of building a tool!
