I also quit Facebook. I occasionally miss some of the casual interactions with far-away friends or acquaintances, but I don’t miss the cynical grabs for my attention and the massively creepy *monitoring* of my psyche. It has very much made my life better.

Leaving Facebook has also almost entirely made me stop having miserably futile arguments with friend-of-friend Trump supporters. I do believe that countering these people in online forums can be helpful, but it was rotting my brain to do it so often.

Facebook is a bizarre invention that facilitates unnatural and insofar as I can determine often Very Bad conversations amongst loosely-connected people who would never otherwise meet or get into passionate arguments. I no longer believe that’s a force for social good.
