1/ There is a guy I went to high school with that I follow on instagram. He was a really bright guy back then. But, over the past few years, his posts clearly show escalating and severe mental illness. They're incoherent, wild, and often (literal) gibberish. It's sad.
2/ So, I was confused when I realized that his posts usually elicit some likes. I assumed they'd be from people who where trying to convey support or offer (faux-)social connection or something. They're not.

3/ The people doing the liking are the same people I went to high school with who were assholes or bullies. They're using likes to coordinate attention. They literally *like* his posts because it gives them something to laugh at. I don't even know what to say about that.
