2/ I've seen some threads saying (roughly) that this is a strong indicator that #OSS won the battle for developer minds. Okay. And? Like, yay #OSS! But, you can exert control in other ways.
And, I bet MS will...eventually.

4/ So, even with the goodwill MS has accumulated in recent years, I'm unwilling to grant the benefit of doubt. Instead, I'll register my concerns, and start worrying even more about community capture by the tech giants.

5/ Github really was incredible for **social coding**. It made contributing to OSS projects widely accessible. ...I'll feel a real sense of loss if it turns into LinkedIn Mark II.

The truth is this: if MS buys GitHub, even if they keep it free and open and exactly the same as it is, I'll still abandon it and share less until there is a new alternative. This is a political identity issue.
