Help my Phd student out!! Are you an Australian public servant working in a social policy role?  We want to hear from you in research exploring the link between public sector performance and accountability frameworks and social policy capacity.

Staff, students and NTEU members have drafted an open letter to the Uni regarding the website, incl concerns about the same staff member teaching a "Feminism" subject. You can sign the open letter here (link to view letter at top of form):

What nonsense, how can anyone erase biology? We can only unbuckle it and bend it, and so we should, for the good of us all.

💫 Going back to work tomorrow! Will I even remember how? Starting as a senior policy officer at ACTCOSS, and I'm stoked to be joining what seems like an excellent team doing strong, important work in the Canberra community. 💫

Hello friends, Aunty Tanya Day’s family have abolished public drunkenness in Victoria, three decades after the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. This is their effort. Platform them. Lift their voices. Say her name: Aunty Tanya Louise Day.

Is it weird to call a list beautiful? There are so many voices in trans studies and it is beyond frustrating that they simply don't get included in ridiculous 'debates' about the existence of trans people.

Life is not always balanced, sometimes it's intrusive and all consuming. Sometimes it isn't about just choosing to set boundaries, but about needing to know you'll still be able to pay bills if you rest, that you'll still have a career if you tap out to mourn your son.

Once, a few years ago, I spent a day in the hospital in crisis. They wanted to keep me overnight, but I convinced them to let me go home so I could finish marking essays and get paid.

It was the straw on my academic back - that I had spent five years working and researching at the university and all they could do was offer me a week of leave before my current contract ended. And I was lucky to get that!

The problem is not just a matter of boundaries, but of structural support for life. When Jin died, I was working about four different jobs, only one allowed about a week of leave, and then I had no work, and no income at all.

Should have been coming into the world today, but just like his overly anxious mama, he was excessively early. Not a minute that I don't miss you and your long, perfect fingers my darling ❤

Recent makings. My hands gently pushing grief into different shapes. I feel like my skin is beginning to grow back, and I'm not always so raw now.

This is an essay my sister Keeley wrote about giving birth in prison and being separated from her newborn. "I cried the whole drive back to the prison after I was pulled away from my daughter. I closed my eyes and just tried to keep seeing her face."

More than 17,000 jobs lost at Australian universities during Covid pandemic - it’s long past time thinking we can look away or shrug our shoulders. Unis are in crisis

Small pleasures in the tides of grief: unsubscribing from all email lists, unliking pages, unfollowing accounts. Deleting small pieces of my digital history, wiping it all clean as though I might scrub the awful ugly thing away too.
