    What nonsense, how can anyone erase biology? We can only unbuckle it and bend it, and so we should, for the good of us all.

    The Australian... Quillette... transphobia... it’s just shit all the way down. Glad that these people are getting cash from government policy + the biggest philanthropic fund for journalism in Australia. What a country.

    Is it weird to call a list beautiful? There are so many voices in trans studies and it is beyond frustrating that they simply don't get included in ridiculous 'debates' about the existence of trans people.

    It is absolutely crucial that media outlets and universities begin to recognise that like climate denial, trans denial is based on unscientific views that are wildly out of step with peer-reviewed scholarship

    Life is not always balanced, sometimes it's intrusive and all consuming. Sometimes it isn't about just choosing to set boundaries, but about needing to know you'll still be able to pay bills if you rest, that you'll still have a career if you tap out to mourn your son.

    Once, a few years ago, I spent a day in the hospital in crisis. They wanted to keep me overnight, but I convinced them to let me go home so I could finish marking essays and get paid.

    It was the straw on my academic back - that I had spent five years working and researching at the university and all they could do was offer me a week of leave before my current contract ended. And I was lucky to get that!

    The problem is not just a matter of boundaries, but of structural support for life. When Jin died, I was working about four different jobs, only one allowed about a week of leave, and then I had no work, and no income at all.

    It's a university holiday and I'm reflecting on work/life balance. I don't particularly love the term, because to me it implies that life has to be balanced into the equation, when I think that it's work that requires boundaries. Life is the default. 1/
