This happened with an RP partner that I had once. The only thing that mattered were her mental issues and they were more important than my own shortcomings, faults, etc, and she would bring up how fucked up she was every single time we fought. We were just oil and water.
Oh god, yeah. It kinda makes you constantly question whether your feelings are warranted or not comparatively 
validation seeking, etc.
Really hard especially if you cared for that person. Some things just don’t play out.
