When there are parent-childhood traumas like this, why is the mainstream advice usually on the "child" to forgive?

It's a simple thing, you're not forgiving them to make them feel better about themselves, forgiveness is for you, such events leaves scars in our hearts that only forgiveness can heal. So in the end You're doing yourself a favour.

Tbh don't bring a child into the world, traumatise the child, and it's now left to the child to forgive. Notwithstanding whatsoever the benefits of "forgiveness" are.

It’s so the child can live a more peaceful &happy life ¬ be bound by chains of hatred, heartbreak &hostility. I was 51 when I finally understood why the CHILD should forgive. I saw MY son being tormented by the pain of unforgiveness because his dad COMPLETELY ignored him.
