The very act of doing science is queer. It is specific and generalizable. It is an individual and a communal project. It is a rejection of the seduction of assumptions. Science begins with a question born out of imagination, of wonder.

Iโ€™m very excited to present my latest article for Symmetry Magazine on dark energy, the mysterious โ€œthingโ€ that comprises most of the universe. If only we knew what exactly it was! Curious?Check out my article for more details symmetrymagazine.org/article/a-cosm #physics #science #journalism

It shouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction to every point of view we disagree with, otherwise, we run the risk of stifling constructive debate needed to move issues forward and reach solutions that work for everyone.

This can happen in scientific fields as disparate as artificial intelligence, genetically modified crops and psychedelic medicine - representing some of the most challenging areas for science communication that I enjoy employing my skills in.

What if, as well as interacting with an audience that thinks science is not for them for various reasons, you also have you tackle the problem of people immediately jumping to negative conclusions halfway through the first sentence?

I enjoy overcoming the challenges that often prevent effective science communication and assisting fellow researchers to do the same. I have studied and worked to mitigate the points where science and its communication may not effectively reach various under-represented groups.

In the main, it was really well thought out. However, I found with a few more adaptations it could be made more accessible to two children with disabilities. In the picture, I am wearing a black tea shirt and colorful shorts and reaching out my hands to the iron filings.

I'm really fed up with the culture wars, specifically how it drives a wedge between people. I've seen lifelong friends no longer talking because of disagreements about cultural and political issues. It's creating divisions and aggression in groups that weren't there before.

Something has got into me. I love science and my opinion was that sci-fi could do everything that all the other genres aim to do, but better and with added Science. Now I can't even look at a sci-fi novel and would rather read almost anything else. Perhaps this is just a phase.

To live only for some future goal is shallow. Itโ€™s the sides of the mountain which sustain life, not the top. Hereโ€™s where things grow. But of course, without the top you canโ€™t have any sides. Itโ€™s the top that defines the sides. Pirsig, R. M. Zen+the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
