Ew who gave her a thong? Why. Why.
Ulysses Grant preferred to wear a private's coat and a civilian hat. Everyone he beat wore a more proper uniform.
I have issues with Laura Dern's appearance in the movie, but none of them have anything to do with whether her appearance affected her ability to command. (Didn't notice Han Solo changed outfits when he became a general.)
I believe in the 'show, not tell' style of writing. I need to be shown within the movie that a character is deserving and capable of the role in which she or he is thrust. Ackbar gave strategy in his first minute of screentime. This 'admiral' acts
like she's a queen, keeping all in the dark from her plan and acting in an onorthodox manner. If she had a plan all along, it should have been shown prior to Act 3. Plus, a great leader would've discussed strategy with her fellow leaders to reach the best plan of attack.
BTW: Watch Wonder Woman and TLJ back-to-back. WW showed WHY she was worthy of leading a battalion into battle. She was a strongly-written character AND a feminist. TLJ was full of feminist ideals, but poorly written BY A MAN! WTF?
You and I disagree on how the TLJ characters were written and that’s cool. The point overall is that judging a woman’s capabilities based on her looks demeans the overall capability of women. Diana & Holdo are strong, smart, independent women who earned their places.
