It's not the actress they're afraid of. Oscar never likes to commend horror films; usually they're after more aspirational fare, or traditional fare. Horror always been seen as schlocky, and base - not what the snooties want to applaud.

Us isn't horror - it's more Twilight / Outer limits.
But this argument's been brought more sharply into focus because of the colour side of things - however, I don't feel that's why there was the snub, personally. It doesn't help matters, but... #Oscars
