I want to start by saying i very much enjoyed 1917. & i have a question... Beyond the technical wizardry of not cutting, did it add anything to the film? Cutting is like punctuation. It’s a tool that can be as creative as the content. Dare i ask, was it a gimmick in this case?

Also didn’t they actually cut in 1917, it was just made to look like one shot? Kind of agree about the potential gimmick either way

If anything, it pushed the narrative to more contrivances i thought; story was there to service the one shot, rather than the other way round. I found it jarred in places, even though technically was a marvel
