Shame New Zealand didn't make the Asia-Pacific section #DNR18
Social media use by news publishers has started to fall but that's not necessarily a pan-social trend. It basically means retreating from Facebook #DNR18
This is no coincidence: "News apps, email newsletters, and mobile notifications continue to gain in importance." I'd say that reflects publishers trying to maintain a direct audience relationship without relying on Facebook.
Podcasts and voice assistants like Echo and Google Home growing rapidly. News media video, not so much.
This is really interesting. New Zealand media: please send me your Facebook referral charts (for research purposes only, of course) #DNR18pic.twitter.com/VPn1aMd7Bb
On #fakenews: "Looking at our survey results, we find that when consumers talk about ‘fake news’ they are often just as concerned about poor journalism, clickbait, or biased/spun journalism."
That's a good point - media outlets and regular people see #fakenews differently #DNR18
The Nordic countries are leading the way when it comes to attracting paying digital subscribers, with data-driven models.
What is the rhyme or reason why Nordic's successful when rest of world less so?
Many factors, including strong direct relationships with readers, history of paid subscriptions, savvy strategies by data-focused publishers, relatively high incomes, and language barriers reducing competition
So some of those are too niche to adopt here generally then? Ie we all speak English, the internet's in English, a lot of English stuff is on the internet.
NZ's a different market, in more than just the language sense.
