Shouichi Yoshikawa wasn't sure Pal Soft S.M.S was the same company, but I think it is.
I'm not sure if you knew this already, but the manuals for Kunio's Soccer for the MD and Magical Chase for the PCE both have the publisher's name listed as 株式会社S.M.S. on the company's address, despite the use of the Palsoft publishing label.pic.twitter.com/fBE9pHgNYQ
Incidentally, an S.M.S. is credited on the liner notes for all four O'bits albums (Double Dragon II, V'Ball, Ninja Ryukenden II and Kunio's Soccer) released by Meldac around 1990-1991.pic.twitter.com/XxqQDqZOwL
The same S.M.S. Corporation is also credited for the planning and production of the Ninja Ryukenden OVA (coincidentally distributed by Pack-In Video). Executive producer 南隆裕/Takahiro Minami appears in the credits.pic.twitter.com/lf6P4d6a2g
Apparently they had a U.S. branch located in California called S.M.S. International of Japan. https://bizstanding.com/p/sms+international+of+japan+inc-163290699 …
Minami turns up on a few Asmik games. S.M.S turns up on Megalit for Game Boy, which was published by Asmik in Japan.
I wasn't aware they had ties to Asmik of all companies before seeing your tweet. I always assumed they were more closely related Technos due to the MD ports of their games and the fact that they almost published Combatribes on SFC before Technos decided to do it themselves.
Do you have anything on Combatribes?
