A student I mentor just had their advisor tell them that they would never have the career they wanted with their major.
They want my job.. I don't have that major either.

Microsoft automatically rejects software engineer applications without a STEM degree.
-
That is hard to believe. I know more than 40 engineers at Microsoft that did not go to school for STEM.

Wish my math degree wasn’t hated so much too.

My degree was in health and people still ask me how I got my job with my degree. It’s such an old school way of thinking.

YES. After college, we sometimes end up pivoting from what our major and that’s ok.

Wish this sentiment was more commonly preached. I came from a bio background and it was really disheartening trying to switch into tech. Thankfully I'm in my CS master's program now, but it honestly felt like my career was doomed because I started off with the wrong major.
-
I just started a non thesis CS master's and tried applying for jobs while studying the masters part-time and it's insanely hard to even get an interview. I have a bachelor's in actuarial math. Idk if it's too early but it's worrying pursuing more studies with doubts about jobs.
