    Some of my partners also started using the new built-in JSON serializer, and it's definitely faster than the 3rd party alternatives they were using. Nice progress!

    This is a nice feature and especially for a Monday when I'm actually trying to get some work done. If I could automatically mute the whole thread the muted word is in, that would be even better.

    Here's another little surprise I found with apps that need to specify codepage. In .NET Core 3.1 I needed to add the Nuget package for System.Text.Encoding.CodePages and this line to Program.cs: Encoding.RegisterProvider(CodePagesEncodingProvider.Instance);

    Each time after you change between 472 to netcoreapp3.1 you'll want to Clean and Rebuild the project. I also found it worked better to switch to Segoe UI from whatever ancient font as I was using before when fonts looked funky when run as a Core app.

    Here's a useful tip if you're migrating Winforms apps to .NET Core 3.1: once you've used try-convert to migrate to the new csproj format, you can keep both targets in there and switch between them. You'll still want to work with the forms designer with net472 as the target.

    We're an ~$800B company and Google just flagged our app downloads and they are being blocked in Chrome. No notice. "1-2 weeks until they will resolve it". We're telling all our customers to stop using Chrome. Use Edge instead.

    In my team at GitHub, we'd like to study examples of "nefarious commits" in open source, which introduce a bug on purpose. Can you point me at such commits? Could it have been detected by analysing the committer's behaviour as well as the code change itself?

    This is GREAT news! I trust Microsoft with my browsing more than (sorry, folks!) rando ad blockers.

    In case you're interested in my testers' results. (Of course you are!) 1. .NET Core 3.1 apps are definitely faster and totally worth it. 2. Using the preview feature to remove "unused" assemblies from stand-alone apps creates executables that sometimes fail in surprising ways.

    It's not the end of UWP for those of us using it for enterprise work, but developers relying on ad sales need to pay attention to this change.

    A new issue I've encountered I'll need to work around is that LoadLibrary of a native DLL fails now with .NET Core 3.1 although it works fine from .NET 4.7.2. Tbh I don't even know if that scenario is supposed to work.

    Calling all UWP developers: if you have a high percentage (> 15%) of crashes with the word “hang” with your apps, please reply or DM me. I'm doing an investigation and I want to report it to Microsoft. I suspect an OS bug.
