If you stop and think about it, it’s really weird that every ISP and social media company and cloud provider and search engine work together to stop me from sharing illegal copies of Harry Potter, but credible death threats against specific people are easy to spread.

Stuff like this destroys me far more than those like 30 under 30 lists. How do some people have their shit so much together they not only have a bag for cold beverages but its a frog? How am I meant to compete against Frog Drink Bag?

May I offer you a cold beverage from my frog bag

A magpie turned up at my back door and is patiently waiting. I’d better pour it a beer.

ORMish is a wonderful way to describe modest layers of code that abstract your database for your controllers but don’t go the Full Django.

Spent the day cleaning up our AWS SSO config (no more assume role after SSO!) and writing docs on the ORMish thing we use. Pretty bloody good day, really.
Nothing screams "open and honest deliberation" like releasing a preprepared list of initiatives you were going to do anyway an hour before the Summit actually finishes and claiming these were all achieved there.

At the human level, we must emphasise the #robodebt amounts don't speak to the suffering. Those who had the least had nothing to garnishee, lived with the week to week payment plan. The small toy, the pack of biscuits foregone. A jobseeker life doesn't yield a lot of interest
Quote Tweet
From Monday, #Robodebt victims will get a payment for the interest they would have got on the money they were made to illegally repay. Half will receive between $50 & $300. A tiny portion will be very small - under the terms of the class action court order all have to be notified

The thing is that if you’re in government you actually can relitigate it. That’s sort of the point. The only excuse not to do so would be if you think it’s a good idea, so the conclusion must be that Labor thinks tax cuts for the rich is a good idea.
Quote Tweet
PM Anthony Albanese at #npc, asked about the controversial stage 3 tax cuts: “we made a decision that we would stand by that legislation rather than re-litigate it… We inherited it. And I said that we haven't changed our position”

I think it's safe to say now a few months into the global fossil energy crisis, govt's have been amazingly eager to ramp up sources of fossil fuels, and ultra-slow or entirely stalled on efforts to destroy demand for fossil fuels (like clean energy, insulation, electrification)

Philip K Dick movies all have names like CORTICAL IMPASSE and are based on short stories called like "Let's See What's Going On Down at the Brain Factory"

New term: "Quiet wage theft" - it's where bosses and managers exploit the scarcity in the job market to create a competitive, insecure workplace culture that requires people to sacrifice their own time in order to meet the norm of "above and beyond".

Terrifying fact: we figured this out at Google and it was part of why we stopped the program. The folks who left the program to start Starlink knew all this.
