This applies to VC-backed startups. For a profitable small business, 2x growth is great. But VCs want hockey-stick growth. A consistent 2x year over year would be 1000x over 10 years, but if you're struggling to hit 2x early, you're more likely to slow down than speed up.

Depends on what you're selling. My company needs about 7-10k paying customers. Acquisition growth with little capital infusion is a minimum 3 year adventure for us.
