New slogan: "We don't want to make Boston into another New York. We'd just like it to be as livable as Helsinki."

Any card terminal where the customer has to verbally tell the cashier the type of card payment was designed (or implemented) by an idiot.

The Post is reporting that the Unite the Right 2 rally is a huge crowd of... 30 people. There are thousands of counterprotesters. It’s almost like physically confronting white supremacists and putting their faces on social media actually works.

The midterms are not about the NFL, ostrich jackets, reality show aides, or paranoid conspiracies. It’s that Trump is trying to eliminate pre-existing conditions, cut people from health coverage & raise premiums. And will if given a majority in the House.https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapsen/2018/08/12/obamacare-repeal-a-gop-albatross-as-midterm-elections-near/ …

A note about
#airtrafficcontrol: we train for several years, after which we periodically train for scenarios that we hope to never face in real time. We work to ensure safe operations in the national airspace system, and we're pretty damn good at it, too.Show this threadThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo -
Is there a good reason (i.e., not "tradition") why women only do 5 dives in competition (vs. 6 for the men)?
@fina1908? I'd bet that today's women athletes have at least the stamina and training of the men these days, if not brute strength. And lots of women do armstands anyway.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo -

"Others agree that the sudden influx of scooters has changed the character of the Westside" Unbelievable how fragile some people think* the "character" of their neighborhood is. *Claim to thinkhttps://twitter.com/jbarro/status/1028401896158056450 …

The needs of the middle class always matter because some of them are incredibly effective at fighting for their own interests, at the expense of others if necessary. We can harness that by making common cause between them and the poor (eg by getting the middle class on transit).

It's also convenient for Affluent Nimbys to advocate solely for housing for the very poor bc they can come off like saints while also ensuring that no one actually gets to live in their backyard.

Well done to everyone who managed to give a few racist losers a completely disproportionate amount of TV attention for their influence, which helps them legitimize their hate.

Valiantly resisting the urge to grump about NBC sports announcers, because I know it won't do any good and my followers have heard it all before.

It’s another bright Sunday morning in America & the Sunday shows are offering... Kellyanne Conway, Rudy Giuliani, Michael Avenatti...again. The line up so predictable & dull.

Figured out that this plan dovetails perfectly with my Commuter Rail to Framingham State U/Crossing Blvd via Ag Branch idea as well.

I should point out that all of this is predicated on
@alon_levy's original modeling for a Regional Rail schedule on this line is achievable, and I don't know (other than full high platforms on both tracks, and obviously, electrification) what additional investments are required.Show this threadThanks. Overnight storage requirements are modest: 12 at Worcester (max capacity), 10 at Readville, and 3 at Framingham. Blog post to follow Sunday evening.

Likewise, an early-morning positioning run from Framingham is run in revenue service, and I bet even departing at 4:27 it would get ridership (from T and airport employees if no one else).

I've also written (although not modeled) some runs in revenue service from Readville, on the Fairmount Line, in the early morning (there's no *need* for these to be revenue runs, but there's also no reason why they shouldn't be).
