A few people have asked if I have a list of my history threads. I don't keep one as they're a spontaneous thing mostly. But here's a few I remember. Let's start with how the Knights Hospitaller had one of the largest airforces in Europe after WW2. Really.

Sod Pepsi's navy. Let's talk about the point after WW2 where the Knights Hospitaller, of medieval crusading fame, 'accidentally' became a major European air power. I shitteth ye not. 🛩️🛩️

Remember: Melon's API changes (and his own deliberate blocks) will mean most, if not all, of the tools designed to help you find your Twitter follows on Mastodon next week. So if you've not made the jump, now is the time to at least set up a backup account over there.

I'm no expert, but if a rival superpower floated a balloon over my country, i'd probably go: "LOL. Balloon. What are you? Five?" Feels like one of those things where it's important not to pretend you give a shit. Even if you do.

Am attempting a tagine but it seems more soupy than planned. Hopefully it will be good soup. 😆

A day of joy

Exactly one year ago today, a certain formerly-feral kitty felt brave enough to explore our master bedroom for the first time. What he found there blew his little street kitty mind. Twitter, today is the first anniversary of Napoleon discovering duvets exist.

The ONLY acceptable way to do a Gladiator sequel is to have TV's The Gladiators go back in time to try and save The Gladiator. In doing so, they create an alternate timeline where Rome still rules the world, so have to go back AGAIN to fight The Gladiator and kill him.

Just a reminder that you will also find me on one such, pachidermy platform. And on there, my random kitty photos and ramblings are not deprioritised in favour of pushing adverts or Full Tick Wankers into your eyes.

This apparently marks the end of the hourlykitten bot on this site. It was a noncommercial labor of love and we hope it brought you some joy. Look for us on other likely sites, starting with ones that are less hostile to users and more hostile to Nazis. twitter.com/TwitterDev/sta…

Personally I think Melon's announcement of a $100pm fee for the twitter API is brilliant. Means devs at big companies now have both the incentive to decouple from twitter-as-login etc AND a reason the accountants will understand. Proper big brain stuff. Top work Melon!

The Russian invasion of Ukraine may have prompted many Germans to think differently about war, to recognise that it may sometimes be necessary to defend territory, values and principles. But the German fear of war runs deep. My piece

And when we did release him a month or so later, once his stitches had healed and the worst of winter had passed, he disappeared for a few hours. Then strolled right back in, came straight upstairs and... ...well. it was clear what was a key factor in his decision-making. 😆

And of course the discovery of duvets meant, shortly afterwards, he decided to try duvet hugs. Which was basically the point at which (unbeknownst to him) we decided that if he came back post-release then he could stay forever.

Imagine spending the first year of your life living on the street, scrounging for food, sleeping with one eye open, with the softest, warmest thing you've ever sat on being some straw someone left outside in a kennel for you. Then discovering duvets exist.

By this point, he'd been stuck in the house with us for a few weeks. We'd captured him while he was sick, and he'd then been sent off for his jabs and to be snipped. He had discovered scritches by this point, but was still unsure about this 'coming indoors' thing. Then... duvet
