The immediately relevant examples are from the UK. I don't have relevant personal experience wrt the US left; most of the left-wing discourse about language I've encountered here has concerned Spanish, which is rather a different case.

Right. Of course it matters that individuals have food and shelter, and these things come first. But once that's said, we must consider how crucial culture is to individuals and to communities. People need community, and community is built with culture.

it's tricky and nuanced. I work in DK and EN, speak to part of my family in IT, should speak to the rest in Faroese (FØ). I have to admit that setting aside the time to properly learn FØ (50k speakers) is still difficult. 1/n

Still my kids to speak IT&FØ&DK for the people reasons, which are important. As a note aside, I never really learned my originary dialect (Romagnolo), partly a shame, but also it was much more useful to speak decent FR & EN for my life and preferences.

I am starting to learn welsh after years of putting it of. I am finding welsh Twitter a useful and welcoming place unlike english twitter. The only blind spot are people like Zoe Williams who think they have a right to tell me i am wasting my time. She sadly is not alone.
