    frt if an app asks for camera access and you’re not certain someone’s going to lose their job if your data doesn’t get treated right, it takes a second and a piece of tape to preserve your privacy and still test the code

    If you need a reason to get into devrel, do it so you have a platform for your “upload a webcam photo” demo and you can spend the rest of your natural life collecting pictures of devs pulling silly faces.

    When engineering people talk about what we want to do, we often talk about the job we want to have—a title, or a role. I feel like you get a much better outcome when you talk about the way you want to spend your day, or the change you want to effect. Helps rule out nonsense.

    I want to wake up. Write down some ideas, write some code. Eat lunch. Go outside. Drive around. Come back inside. Watch some tv. Chat with people about their journeys. And go on vacation to warm places two or more times a year.

    I read a cool tip about using the Mac os’s built in dictation to save time writing rough drafts and scripting recorded video and it’s going great

    Just dictation demonstrating I don’t enúnciate nearly as well as I could, e.g. “we use the bunny just to kiss”

    Honestly, a lot of free software is free as in *piano.* It's right there. Nobody is stopping you. You could totally spend hours of painstaking labor getting it carried up your front steps or built from a clusterfuck of diffs and patches or whatever. Everyone knows you won't.

    in 1911 the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire claimed the lives of 146 people, mostly Jewish and Italian immigrant girls and women. After the fire, the Int'l Ladies Garment Workers Union fought for increased safety standards.

    A fire truck sprays water at the 10-story-high Asch Building. The fire truck’s ladder reaches ineffectually up to the 7th floor--the fire started on the 8th floor.
